Arjuna Award recipient Suhas L Yathiraj beats all odds, Qualifies for Asian Para Games 2023

New Delhi (India), 26th July 2023: Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj, current , District Collector Noida, Uttar Pradesh and a professional para-badminton player currently holding the No. 2 rank in the world for men’s singles has added another gem to his gauntlet.

The pro athlete announced via a tweet on Tuesday, July 25th that he had qualified for the prestigious Asian Para games, 2023 that are going to be held in China during the month of October.

Sharing a picture of his flawless score sheet from his selection trial matches that were held in the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik, Sports Complex in Noida, Suhas announced that he had won all matches against the players of Haryana, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh thus securing a place in the team that would be representing India on the international platform of the Asian Para games.

He wrote in his tweet, “Happy to share that I Qualified for Asian Para Games 2023 to be held in China in October. Won all the matches in selection trials. Win against Haryana, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh ensured ticked to Asian Para Games.Trials for selection of Indian team was held in Noida. Jai hind.”

Suhas who originally comes from Hassan, Karnataka and holds an engineering degree from NIT Karnataka, is an Arjuna awardee Indian para-badminton player who just won the silver medal at the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021. He previously had earned a bronze medal in the Badminton Championship, which were hosted in Spain on April 26, 2020.

Along with an illustrious sports career Suhas L Yathiraj is also a 2007 batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre and is the first IAS officer to have won a medal at the Paralympics.

He has previously held the posts of District Magistrate (DM) of Maharajganj, Sonbhadra, Hathras, Prayagraj, Jaunpur, Azamgarh and Gautam Budh Nagar and currently holds the position of District Collector, Noida.
