Three APP candidates threatened, told to stop campaigning or to have dire consequences

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday Aam adami party put a allegation that three of its contestants for civic body polls, including the mayoral candidate in Ghaziabad, were threatened by unknown persons.

AAP spokesperson Vivek Yadav said that Dr Pragati Tyagi, the mayoral candidate, and those contesting from Loni and Murad Nagar, were threatened. As per incident a FIR is been registered by AAP party and asked senior superintendent of police (SSP) for the police protection for its candidates . Further he told that “There have been attempts to intimidate our candidates. Our mayoral candidate said the unidentified caller told her not to contest the polls and stop carrying out campaigns.

Sanjay Tyagi, AAP’S candidate for Loni Nagar Palika, said that unidentified men had forcefully entered his residence in Madhuban Colony and threatened his family.

“They pointed a gun at my wife and children and asked where I was. They threatened my family and said there would be bad consequences if I did not drop out of the elections. When neighbours came on hearing my family’s cries, they fled. I have requested the SSP to provide me with security,” Tyagi said.

AAP candidate Mukesh Goswami, contesting for the chairman’s post in Murad Nagar, said he has also requested additional security. “Two men came to my election office on November 10 and threatened me to bad consequences if I continued to campaign and contested the elections. They also raised some communal issues,” Goswami said.

“We have received their applications on the issue and their requirement of security. The issues will be probed and suitable action will be taken,” said HN Singh, SSP, Ghaziabad. The AAP is contesting local body elections in UP for the first time and has fielded 83 candidates in Ghaziabad, the second highest number after BJP’S 100.

The AAP has also claimed the support of nine independent candidates. The Ghaziabad district’s civic body polls will be held in the second phase of elections, on November 26, as per the schedule announced by the state Election Commission.
