Scene 1:
“Neelgai spotted outside a famous shopping mall in Noida”
“Highways have new traffic: Cheetahs on roads”
“Peacocks dancing in authority maintained parks”
“_Chirping of birds can be heard during these silent times”
There are the various news headings which we have been reading or hearing during lockdown.
Our social media platforms are flooded with selfies with clear skies, stars and beautiful moon visible with naked eye.
The meteological department has been assessing the tremendous fall in pollution level and the rise in air quality. The air is breathable now.
There are no new cases of rape, murder, theft, hit and run being reported.
This lockdown is no more at a state or national level. Increasing number of countries are following this need of the hour scenerio.
Thus the beauty of nature is not restricted to a single country but to the entire world and the news headlines would soon change to
“ Global warming delayed”
“ Glaciers are melting slower than expected”
“ Polar bears are no more in the list of endangered species “
But wait .. for how long ?
14 th April For India and maybe a week or two or three more for the entire world.. and then the hustle bustle would be back. Once again people would be on the streets ,once again the normalcy of life would begin.Once again the animals would go back into hiding.
Scene 2:
People working from home
According to many professionals working from home has increased their productivity at work. They are saving from minimum 2 to almost 4 hrs everyday which was earlier wasted in commuting.
With a much relaxed state of mind they are able to give best thoughts to planning and implementations. The comforts of home against irritating traffic jams make them work for longer hours without any problem. Also the technology has been a boon to such people : video conferencing, virtual coffee meetings, audio conference calls etc have shortened the distance even with international boundaries.
The world time zone seems to have been taken care of. Those who dealt with international clients yet attended office always found it challenging to be in touch with people in different time zones but now they know they can compensate on sleep during the day. All this has lead to an easy working environment.
Scene 3:
Amalgamation of scene 1 and scene 2
If the animals and humans can coexist by taking one step back each
If the sky can still be blue by reducing the pollutants.
If the air can still be breathable by reducing the number of cars on road
If the country can still have the same number of employment ratio then isn’t it a thought worth considering?
We need to rethink,
if it can work now.. it can work later
If people can work from home now then why not after the lockdown
The output is the same , the productivity at work is slightly higher and the issues like pollution, social issues etc can be lowered..
So many man hours are wasted In holding face to face meetings, when the same can be done on skype
The pollution, the traffic, the frustrations would reduce.
In conclusion although we hear about economies being affected and markets heading for doomsday what’s exciting is the realisation that we have reached a phase where we superseded our peak productivity and now to get it back we need to take steps backwards and not forwards.
Millions of dollars are spent researching what the best time of office space could be, but not enough time is spent considering if they’re actually better than considering a distance based scenario.
Companies force team building exercises aimed at bringing their teams together but they forget to tell them how to take a step back when somebody else has the mic.
The concepts and aims of leadership and management are evolving, and what’s noteworthy is the direction in which they’re growing.
This pause forced upon is should give some time to reflect and ponder what is really necessary and not blindly be in the rat race as an individual or as a nation causing irreparable damage to the world we live.
Nature is a great leveler and it has proved it umpteen times in past too that if you don’t listen to logic it makes you listen….
