Woke up smiling, no particular reason but probably because I slept weeping ( will come to that later ) and then the dream that followed… Me living in the ancient era, an era much before the civilisation.. An era when even fire was not invented ( I mean the fire generated by matchsticks , not the fire of our verbal communications ). When bodies were not covered with clothes..when women were different just because their bodies looked different.
It got me thinking , are we responsible for what people perceive of us as women or is it that they just create an opinion. You switch on the television and a serial is running where a “sanskari bahu” is identified by a Saree and head covered with a pallu, a loose women is identified by a tight skirt or may be a pair of shorts, working women… Business suit.. Housewife, suit or saree ..advertisement for gadgets..women in pants.. Advertisement for masala.. Women In sarees.. Why do we stereotype ?
It makes me scream and retaliate..I don’t wear Saree in the kitchen does it mean I don’t cook good food for my family, I wear my most comfortable clothes and enter the furnace instead..i may wear skirt or suit.. I cook the staple diet of roti, sabji, daal.
I rush my Inlaws here there, doing all their tasks wearing my pair of jeans. Does that mean I am not respecting them. I wear this attire in front of my father who is 70 yrs of age then why not in from of my father in law who is 68..does that make me NON sanskari or is it because the Inlaws are IN -LAW.
Who will decide what I am… My clothes ??
I made my clothes, my clothes do not make me.
A house wife should be renamed as “AWW”.. No not the awwww n not the Awe but she should be called Always Working Women.. That too without any leave, increment , bonus and award and recognition programme.
No !! I will not wear what suits your eye
