Sector 15A RWA, NOIDA and HCL Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of HCL, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to transform the sector’s Solid Waste Management (SWM) system. This initiative is part of HCL Foundation’s Project Clean NOIDA aimed at implementing SWM solutions in the city to reduce pollution levels and improve health and overall living conditions of the residents. As part of the MoU, which will be valid for two years, HCL Foundation will collaborate with Sector 15A RWA for analyzing, planning, designing and implementing SWM strategies, focusing on waste segregation at source, raising residents’ awareness and effective management solutions for the remaining waste.
Rajesh Khanna – Secretary, Sector 15A RWA, NOIDA and Alok Varma, Associate Project Director, HCL Foundation signed the MoU in presence of other officials from both the organizations and residents of sector 15A.
The scope of the MoU also includes:
Deployment of required infrastructure for improving solid waste management in RWA area.
Exploring implementation of a payment-based sustainable model that will ensure efficient long-term management of solid waste.
Defining processes for financing the operations of waste collection and its management in the long term by agency/local vendor which will be appointed by HCL Foundation.
Organising resident engagement programmes and raising awareness related to sanitation.
Initiating and implementing relevant ground-level reforms including waste segregation, capacity building of frontline workers, technology-based solutions, etc.
This initiative is an extension of Project Clean NOIDA which is working towards solid waste management in the whole city of NOIDA, in collaboration with the NOIDA Development Authority. Currently, waste management solutions are already being implemented in several of NOIDA’s urban villages like Raipur, Bakhtawarpur, Atta, Harijan Basti, Nithari, Morna, and Harola.
HCL Foundation will help develop sector 15A as a model sector for SWM which can be replicated at other places throughout the city.
