In the heart of London or as some call it the Central London, the beautiful white Gurudwara, Khalsa Jatha stands proud of its heritage and teachings. This Gurudwara is the first ever to be built in London.

The entrance is simple and extremely clean. As you enter the majestic hall, you are welcomed by a soft carpet which is beautifully made as if it reflects the sunlight.

I happened to spot the place of worship during my initial days of getting acquainted to the near by places and went inside to take blessings, when I landed in London about 3 months ago. U.K was experiencing a lockdown due to Corona that time.

With the permission, I went to take the langar and woah, I was welcomed by an extremely warm lady, who gave me the langar of day : Rajma Chawal in a box.

When I offered SEVA, I was touched by what she told me. She said, close to 300 food boxes are made and sent everyday for the homeless from this Gurudwara.

Now I go there every morning. Rice and Dal for lunch is prepared in extremely clean and hygienic surroundings. The food is then packed in small lunch boxes and taken by volunteers for distribution. While the food is being packed, We all talk, sing or just share each other’s joys and sorrows. The environment is so warm and cheerful that one forgets that you are not amongst your family.

In a place away from home, the Gurudwara makes you feel belonged. The humanity, the service to mankind, the warmth towards fellow beings, the care for the needy are the true teachings of any religion, but this place is a living example of following them.

This Gurudwara feeds so many hungry people irrespective of caste or creed, it just believes in humanity and that no one should be left hungry. Corona-19 virus has left many homeless and jobless. The food from this Gurudwara is a blessing for those who are suffering due to this epidemic.

I love being here and appeal to all to come forward. You can chose the country, state and even the way you would want to contribute but be there for others, extend a hand.

The only thing that will make us win against the disease is compassion and empathy.
