Noida police detains in connection with the wall collapse case of Sector-21

Noida, 23rd September, 2022: Gautam Budh Nagar police, which is investigating the Tuesday wall collapse in Noida’s Sector 21 which resulted in deaths daily wager workers cleaning a drain adjacent to the wall, have said that a third person is likely to be booked in this case in addition to the work contractor named by the injured workers, who is currently on the run. Meanwhile, the labour contractor, who was arrested on Tuesday.

On Tuesday morning, a 40m boundary wall of Jal Vayu Vihar Apartments fell while 12 workmen were cleaning a drain nearby. Two of the four died were minors, while eight others were injured.

On the basis of a complaint filed by one of the injured workers, a FIR was lodged on Tuesday against Gul Mohammad, the labour contractor who supplied the workers, including two young boys, to Sundar Yadav, the guy they identified as managing the drain construction.

However, a third name has emerged during the investigation, according to police on Thursday, who added that the development came after investigators questioned Noida authority’s deputy general manager Shripal Bhati about the 92 lakh tender awarded to the contractor for drain cleaning and repair work. Bhati stated that he was questioned by police for seven hours on Wednesday, from 1pm to 8pm.

“On Wednesday, the investigators summoned me to the Sector 20 police station. They needed some documentation connected to the contractor’s tender. “We informed the police that the principal proprietor of the contract firm is Arjun Yadav, and the drain work contract was awarded in his name,” stated Bhati.

“The contract specifies Arjun Yadav and Sundar Yadav, and he was simply supervising the workers, which is why he was listed in the FIR.” “We are reviewing the tender paperwork and will add more names to the FIR after further inquiry,” said Harish Chander, deputy commissioner of police in Noida.

He also stated that police teams went to Badaun on Thursday to record the survivors’ statements.
