550 grams premature baby successfully treated at Kailash Hospital Noida

A pre-term baby girl was born at 27 weeks gestation (6.5 Months) with a birth weight of 550 grams at Kailash Hospital & Neuro Institute, Sector 71, Noida in May 2021.

The delivery had to be conducted prematurely by Gynecologist Dr. Neelam Benara as the patient was suffering from the condition “Anhydramnios” (Nil amniotic fluid) manifested as a Post Covid complication.

Though the baby was Covid negative but the baby’s condition was critical because of being extremely low birth weight. She required
oxygen support at birth, along with intubation and was placed on ventilator and given surfactant immediately after birth. The baby was treated in a timely manner and kept under round-the-clock monitoring at the hospital’s level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
(NICU) by the dedicated Neonatology team led by Dr Ankit Soni (Consultant Neonatologist) and Dr Anuradha Mittal (Consultant
Paediatrician).

The initial few weeks are crucial for nutrition, and development of lung maturity, growth of brain and other organs and for establishing feeds for the baby. Comprehensive tests were performed at the time of birth and during her stay in the hospital, including tests for her retina, heart, and brain. There were no complications of prematurity like Intraventricular hemorrhage (bleeding in brain), Necrotising
Enterocolitis, Bronchopulmonary dysplasia, Retinopathy of Prematurity or septicemia during the entire NICU stay.

After 68 days of special care, the healthy baby girl, was discharged from the hospital with a weight of 1615 grams.

The hospital said that she was the second lowest birth weight baby who has been discharged healthy without any comorbidities.
